I had a trip to Florida coming up and I needed to get a travel docking station that would handle my new MacBook Pro with the M1 chip. I had just purchased a docking station for my home office but now I needed a docking station that was suitable for travel. Not only did I need to access my SD cards while I was in my hotel room in Florida… but I also wanted to make sure that I could hook up my MacBook Pro to the TV in my room via HDMI.
The new MacBook Pro’s M1’s are sleek and fast! However, they only offer (2) USB-C ports. Most of us have tons of gadgets that we need to connect to our MacBook’s. A docking station is the solution.
I had my home office covered but I needed to find a solution for travel.
I came across the OWC USB-C Travel Dock. I was familiar with OWC and own a few of their MacBook products. I never had an issue and found the products to be a cut above their competitors. I checked the specs on their USB-C Travel Dock, saw that it had all that I needed and placed my order.
I received my OWC USB-C Travel Dock within a couple of days. Shortly after I unboxed it, I set it up on my home workstation; just to test it. Everything worked well so I was confident. This unit was light, well built, had a small form factor and even had a built-in USB-C cable which I found do be a welcomed -added touch.
-A few days later, I was off to Florida!
Once I checked into my hotel room in Florida, I needed to send some video files to a client. These videos were on my SD card so I quickly hooked up the OWC Travel Dock and it worked like a charm. Later that night in my room, the TV stations were limited to say the least. I opted to connect my MacBook to the TV via an HDMI cable. Once again, I grabbed my little box (travel docking station) and connected my MacBook to the TV.
The picture on the TV was very good. In addition, the little unit handled countless hours of HDMI video during that trip. This made me happy that I chose this travel dock over a couple of others that I was also researching.
